With family by his side, Eugene K. Price, of Palm Beach Shores, Florida and Cohasset, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2017, at Trustbridge Hospice in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. A witty Irishman and devout Roman Catholic, Gene will forever be remembered as a loving husband, an adoring father and grandfather, and a genuine friend to all. He was 81 years old.
A native of New York, NY, Gene was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Middle Village, Queens. He graduated from St. Margaret’s High School then attended Fordham University where he met the love of his life, Marie Catherine (Holm). They married 58 years ago in Belle Harbor, NY, and to this day, have been each other’s soul mate, best friend and true love.
Absolutely nothing in this world made Gene prouder than his family. In addition to Marie, he is survived by his two sons and their wives: E.T. (and Kristen), and J.T. (and Wendy) as well as five grandchildren: Jennifer (and Jason) Chamberlain, Alexander, Kenny (and Samantha Crowley), Harrison, and Margaret. He also leaves behind a cousin, Patricia Smith, who resides in Elmhurst, Queens.
Gene proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis of the early 1960s, and upon discharge, embarked on a textile marketing career in New York City then Boston. He later changed course and went into business for himself opening Eugene K. Price, Realtors in his adopted hometown of Cohasset, MA where he lived and worked for nearly for 40 years.
He loved Cohasset and was an active member of the community serving in leadership capacities for such groups as the Swim Center, Rotary Club, Board of Recreation, Lions Club, and St. Anthony’s Parish. More recently, Gene made his home at The Atrium in Palm Beach Shores where he and Marie have made many good friends and have created a multitude of special memories.
A diehard sports fan, Gene was a particularly loyal supporter of his New York teams, especially the Mets, Knicks and Jets – not to mention his beloved Fordham Rams. As a player, coach and fan, basketball was his true passion. For many years, he coached in the CYO program where his teams were always so energized by his contagious love for the game, not to mention his patient guidance and ever present sense of humor.
Through thick and thin, Gene was always an unselfish, optimistic and all around terrific guy. We will miss him dearly, but he will forever remain at the heart of our most cherished memories. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Friday, March 17, 2017, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Riviera Beach.
