Axel "Bud" Kogstrom, 91, passed away, Monday, August 28, 2017, in North Palm Beach surrounded by his loving family. Axel was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 29, 1925, to Axel and Torborg Kogstrom and married in 1953 to Nina Cogliandro in Detroit, Michigan. Axel proudly served 4 years with the US Army and an additional two years with the US Navy. He graduated from Wayne State University in 1954 where he briefly taught engineering while working at Studebaker/Packard. In 1961, accompanied by his family, he moved to Palm Beach County to work for aerospace firm Pratt & Whitney Aircraft's newest facility and after nearly three decades, he retired in 1987. Bud participated actively in the community: in establishing the North Palm Beach Library, supporting the Orchid Society, and volunteering at John D. MacArthur State Park. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, boating, and spending his summers in the mountains of Hiawassee, GA always accompanied by his beloved dogs. He enjoyed traveling with his wife abroad and in the U.S. He will be most remembered for his spirit, wit, and sense of humor. Axel is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nina, his 3 children: Christopher Kogstrom and his wife Trish Smyth, Timothy Kogstrom and Michelle Maust and her husband Robert Maust; and 4 grandchildren: Alexandra and Nicholas Salup, Daniel and Carl Kogstrom. A modest man of many talents; he will be forever loved and missed. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the World Wildlife Fund.
